Anna Yamby Lotte Beilin | 25.04.17
At an early age, Tel Aviv based photographer Anna Yam’s family immigrated to Israel from Russia. Her family found it difficult to understand her preoccupation with art, as they always hoped she would succeed in a scientific discipline—however today she understands that her love of art comes from her family.
In Yam’s youth, she studied fashion design at Wizo Haifa Academy of Design and Education, but says she became more involved because of the camera she received from family friend, and because of her army service than involved a lot of observing.
After completing her bachelor’s degree, Yam took part in many group exhibitions and was invited by curator and artist Doron Rabina to do a solo exhibition at the Hamidrasha Gallery in Tel Aviv, which was very well received.
Yam is one of the outstanding representatives of a new generation of photographers. She is a 2005 graduate of Hamidrasha School of Art and has an master’s degree from the Tel Aviv branch of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. She was also chosen to take part in the prestigious residency program of the Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris.
Anna Yam’s work is now on view in the group exhibition A Private Moment in Public at the Haifa Museum of Art until August 19th, 2017.
