Noemi and her son Ben, live in Neve Tzedek, in a home that has been around originally since the 19^th century.  After 10 years of restoration and renovations, they were able to move in, and have been happily living there now for one year.

To grasp an ideal image of the success of this renovation, photos of the home in broad daylight have been included, highlighting every accent of the house. Next post will contain photos of the home to capture the elements right as night falls.

The structure reflects the classic construction of Jaffa, built of stone baring walls and ceilings made from limestone and flat arches of brick and galvanized steel. Its design reflects common residential typology of the urban middle class in Israel and Lebanon from the late 19^th century to the early 30^th century.

The facade of the original building was preserved accurately, and there were some other remains, such as the floor and parts of columns, that Neomi was able to keep. However, there were alterations to the interior to enhance the style and practicality. Each floor contains three large open spaces, which function also for an exhibition. With modular and dynamic walls, which are based on an axis, the residents have the opportunity to change the room division, as they like. These areas will be broad enough to accommodate events in a variety of mediums such as; sculpture, video, installation, architecture, painting, drawing, and new media.

The design reflects the resident’s passions for original Israeli art and mythological design objects by artists such as Mario Botta and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and custom made Venetian lamps and Ben’s skateboards.

Guy Avital was born in 1973, in Tel Aviv, where he currently lives and works. He began his studies in Fine Arts/Painting at the Chelsea College of Art and Design in London, U.K. and continued at Kunstakademie, Dusseldorf in the class of Professor Albert Oehlen. In the end, he studied at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design’s MFA program.

Avital’s newest exhibition, After All, is composed of black and white paintings and photographs from the past year and a half. As oppose to his earlier work of stark and vivid colours, Avital maintained a modernist monochromatic palette for this new exhibition. The limited palette really emphasizes the attention to the endless range of brushstrokes and shapes creating the illusion of depth. Avital’s artistic abilities and creative talents, combined with his use of materials and tools, keep his work unique and fresh with every new exhibition.

After All is on display until June 1, at Inga Gallery of Contemporary Art on 7 Bar Yochi Street, Tel Aviv. Take this chance to check it out!

Danielle Ravitzki‘s first single “Too Much” is one of those perfectly designed intellectual pop songs – the music is uplifting (thanks to the great Assaf Amdursky), her voice is heart-breaking, the lyrics (by the poet Yona Wolach) are amazing and the production of it all sounds exactly like it’s taken from abroad but at the same time it’s totally from here.

Everything sums up into great and timeless songs and that’s because of the great minds of Bruno Grife (“Terry Poison”) and Karni Postel (Cellist, Singer and part of the 90′s group “Bikini”) who are producing the album but also because of Danielle Ravitzki and her great taste in music and her choice of influences. Her choice of great songs by great poets and the choice of the amazing musicians that take part in the forthcoming debut album represents the new era in the pop scene of Tel Aviv – The fearless and bold intellectual pop era.

Working mainly in Paris during the first half of the 20′s century Dardel was influenced by many of the era’s modernist genres, although he is known as a figurative and realistic painter. Obsessed with the the human figure Dardel painted many of his colleagues and fellow artists and The Garçonnière can only enjoy thi dive into early 20th century European style.
