Matter of Fact
by Alison Roberts | 18.04.16In a world ruled by mass produced consumer goods, Matter of Fact, now open at the Benyamini Contemporary Ceramics Center, explores the value of local production through the guise of Israeli ceramics.
Prior to the global financial shift Israel experienced in the 1980s, and the company’s subsequent closure, the Lapid Ceramics Company had remained steadfast in its position as Israel’s most prominent tableware producer. For the exhibition, a host of participants have imagined the company’s succession; designing and producing ceramics as if Lapid operations continued today.
Matter of Fact thoughtfully explores the relationship between industry and culture, examining the connection’s impact on local identity and aesthetics.
Matter of Fact opens April 18th at 19:30
