The Illuminations of Itai Bar-On
by Rebecca Roberts | 21.12.15Today, we would like to delve in to the utterly enchanting world of the lighting designed by Itai Bar-On. A graduate of the prestigious Industrial Design program at Shenkar College of Engineering Design and Art, Bar-On has a long family background in construction, which has heavily influenced his creative conceptual work.
He began with experimentations in the limits of concrete – pushing the boundaries of this rigid material in order to create a new, luxurious, material out of something most see as impersonal and ugly. Defying all expectations, the results are spectacular, light and fluid in a space where one expects only heaviness.
In his work after graduation, Itai began to venture into the design of high-end products, and has created three remarkable lighting series – Bullet, Giza, and Skeleton – all which are modern, and designed using unexpected materials. The results are nothing short of magical. The partnership with other Tel Aviv designers, and the use of unexpected materials such as aluminum, wood, and of course, concrete, make these light fixtures especially a joy to admire in any space.
